The mayor of Brazzaville strengthens cultural cooperation with UNESCO

Ana Elisa de Santana Afonso, UNESCO representative to Congo, today Monday 21 December 2015, paid a visit to the Deputy Mayor of Brazzaville, Hugues Ngouélondélé.

After appreciating the work done in the Brazzaville city council within the framework of promotion of culture, the UN diplomat now wishes to intensify collaboration between this institution and the Brazzaville city council in the area of promotion of Congolese cultural industry and the valorisation of the Congolese painter Marcel Gotène, for the benefit of the people of Brazzaville.

She seized the occasion to brief the Mayor of the city on existing partnership and to express her unshakeable desire to strengthen the said partnership thanks to her institution’s cultural programme for Congo which she intends to implement. This project has the full backing of the first citizen of Brazzaville. « In his capacity as Mayor of one of UNESCO’s creative cities, he believes the city council of Brazzaville needs multiple and multi-faceted partnerships within the framework of its visibility in the area of culture » he opined. In spite of time constraints, UNESCO representative to Congo reassured the Deputy-Mayor of Brazzaville of her total availability to accompany the Brazzaville city council in all its initiatives on the promotion of Congolese culture.
